In Tenerife, there are a lot of beautiful hidden gems and beaches that do not have easy walking access, but that can be accessed using Inflatable paddle boards (SUP) or Kayaks. The best part is that due to that difficulty, if you rent this equipment you can even get this place all to yourself.
In this article we will cover some of the best routes that can be accessed both, Kayaking and Paddle Surfing, although we must say that for some of them the access might be a bit far from the parking spot (all this information can be found on each spot explanation) for this reason at Tralei we came with the best solution to explore this places while you are on vacation in Tenerife. We know that fitting a kayak on a rental car isn’t the easiest and the most convenient thing, and that standing up on a Paddle board for long distances isn’t ideal either. That’s why we have started renting a hybrid version of both so that you can explore Tenerife freely: an inflatable paddle board that converts to a kayak with just a seat and an extra paddle! The best of both worlds. This board comes in a backpack which makes it easy to carry, fits on most car trunks, and you get the option to change between standing up and rowing like a kayak. You can check this out on Tralei Rentals.
1. Teresitas Beach To Las Gaviotas
(or just Teresitas)
2.9 km / 1.8 miles round trip
Teresitas is the best beach for beginners as it has a breakwater that protects the shore from the waves. We recommend this beech for everyone that wants to practice their stand up skill on the paddle.
Once you are comfortable, you can start your expedition to Las Gaviotas beach, which is a black sand beach nearby (1,5 Km away). This beach also has car access so you can be picked up on that beach too (if you have someone to do so, of course)
There is an specific place to enter and exit with kayaks and SUPs, which can be found at the end of the beach, so the best parking spot is here
2. Igueste to Antequera
5.8 km / 2.6 miles round trip
To access the beach you’ll need to find parking around here. And walk 550 meters to Igueste beach where you can start the route.
After almost 3 Km of paddling, you will arrive at Antequera Beach, which is a very secluded beach as it can only be accessed by boat/ kayak, or paddle surf / doing a 6.7 Km hike.
3. Los Cristianos - Palm-Mar
5.8 km / 2.6 miles round trip (aprox.)
You can start this route on either side. In Los Cristianos, parking will be more complicated but water access and mounting the equipment will be very easy on the beach. On the other hand, Pal-Mar has more parking closer to the beach, but water access is harder as it is a pebble beach. In this area, you can often see some turtles, and if you are lucky you might even spot dolphins on the fish farms. (Note that swimming with dolphins is completely forbidden, and that you can’t get inside the fish farms, only around).
4. Los Gigantes Cliffs
Los Gigantes Route has one of the most amazing views on the island. You can start on Los Guios Beach. Although you will need to park about 600 meters away. Either on the paid harbour parking or on he nearby streets (which parking can be hard to find sometimes)
If you go paddling, you can go around close to the cliffs and enjoy a relaxing paddle session. For kayakers, you might want to try to get to Masca beach, which is 5.5 km away from the main beach (so 11 km round trip). But you should always check the tides, because when the tide is rising, the current pushes to Punta de Teno and when it is going down it goads towards los guios beach (for this reason, this route is not recommended for SUPs)
We recommend sharing your plans with the lifeguards before starting your journey so that they can let you know if the daily conditions fit your plans)
Finally, if you arrive during sunrise you might be lucky enough to spot Pilot whales.
5. Puertito De Adeje To
Diego Hernandez
2.5 km / 1.6 miles round trip (aprox.)
